All cacti are succulents but not all succulents are cacti.
By definition, succulent plants, or succulents, are generally considered drought-tolerant plants with thick, water storing leaves, stems, and roots. This storing of water is what gives them some of the common characteristics we see with succulents, like thick leaves and stems. Since succulents store water in this way, they do not need to be watered as frequently as other plant varieties – one their most notable characteristics.
Succulents come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. There are general care techniques that are applicable across all succulents but there are some techniques better suited for different varieties of succulents as well. For example, while my Bunny Ear Cactus on requires water once per week; my String of Hearts vining succulent thrives when watered twice per week. Check your succulent’s soil regularly to ensure you’re watering it according to its needs.
